Privacy Policy

Kaster Technologies Inc. ("Kaster," "we," "us," or "our") operates kaster.ca (the "Site"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you interact with our Site or services. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described below.

This Policy is designed to comply with applicable Canadian privacy legislation, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec Law 25.

Scope

This Policy applies to personal information collected through the Site, including through contact forms and demo requests. It does not apply to operational or proprietary data shared by clients through Kaster's platform; that data is governed by the applicable client agreement.

Information We Collect

We collect information you voluntarily provide, including your name, email address, company name, and any other details submitted through the Site. We may also automatically collect standard analytics data such as IP address, browser type, and pages visited. What is collected automatically, and whether anything is stored on your device to do it, depends on the analytics choice described under Cookies and Analytics below.

We do not collect, store, or process any operational or proprietary data from your organization through this Site.

Consent

By submitting information through this Site — a contact form or a demo request — you consent to the collection and use of that information as described in this Policy. You may withdraw that consent at any time by contacting us at legal@kaster.ca, subject to applicable legal or contractual restrictions. Withdrawing consent may limit your access to certain features or services.

Consent to analytics is separate, and submitting a form does not give it. We ask for it with the banner described under Cookies and Analytics below, where it is given or refused; you can change your answer from the footer of any page, and that change takes effect immediately rather than by written request.

How We Use Your Information

Information you submit is used to respond to your inquiry, provide the services you requested, and where relevant, share information about Kaster products or updates that may be of interest to you. We will not use your information for unrelated purposes without your consent.

Third-Party Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share it with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the Site or delivering our services, on a need-to-know basis and subject to confidentiality obligations. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Some of our service providers may be located outside Canada, including in the United States. Where personal information is transferred outside Canada, we take reasonable steps to ensure it remains protected in accordance with applicable privacy law.

Data Retention

We retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by applicable law. When information is no longer needed, it is securely deleted. For questions about specific retention periods, contact us at legal@kaster.ca.

Your Rights

Under applicable Canadian privacy law, including Quebec Law 25, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. You may also withdraw consent to its use at any time. To exercise any of these rights, submit a written request to legal@kaster.ca. We will respond within 30 days of receiving your request. If we refuse a request, we will provide the reasons and inform you of available remedies.

Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. These include encrypted data storage, restricted internal access on a need-to-know basis, and secure data transmission protocols.

Cookies and Analytics

The tools we use. We use two, and one answer governs both. There is no separate setting for either.

PostHog helps us understand how visitors move through the Site. Data collected for analytics — including your browser type and the pages you view — is sent to PostHog and processed on servers in the United States. Your IP address reaches PostHog, because any request carries it, but it is not stored alongside your activity: it is used in transit for the purposes described below and then discarded.

Google Analytics, provided by Google, counts visits and page views and is the source of the traffic reports we have kept over the years. It runs only if you accept. What it collects — the pages you view, your browser and device type, and an approximate location derived from your IP address — is sent to Google and processed on servers in the United States and in other countries where Google operates. Google states that it does not retain the IP address itself. We do not use Google's advertising features: nothing collected here is used to personalise advertising, and no cross-device advertising signals are collected.

Your choice. A banner appears on your first visit, offering acceptance and refusal with equal prominence. If you accept, your answer stands for six months; if you refuse, it stands for a year, because we wait longer before asking again someone who has declined. After that the banner asks once more. You can change it at any time from the Cookie choices control in the footer of every page; the change takes effect immediately, on the page you are on, and needs no request to us.

Before you answer. Until you answer, analytics runs in a mode that puts nothing on your device — no cookie, and no other stored identifier. To count visits without one, PostHog instead derives an identifier on its own servers from your IP address, your browser, and this Site's name, combined with a secret value it replaces every day. That identifier lets us see how many people visited today and which pages a single visit covered. It does not let us recognise you on another day: when the daily secret changes, so does the identifier, so someone who visits on seven days is counted as seven different people. No approximate location is derived in this mode. Google Analytics is not loaded at all before you answer: nothing is requested from Google, nothing is sent to it, and no Google cookie is placed on your device.

If you accept. PostHog stores an identifier on your device, so that returning visits can be recognised across days rather than only within one. Your approximate location is derived from your IP address, which is discarded afterwards rather than kept.

Google Analytics is loaded and stores two cookies on your device: _ga, and _ga_ followed by the identifier of this Site's data stream. They hold a randomly generated number that lets a returning visit be recognised as the same browser, and they expire 180 days after they are set — the same period your acceptance stands for, so no Google identifier outlives the answer that allowed it.

If you refuse. No analytics events are collected at all, and no analytics identifier is stored. A refusal is not merely a refusal of cookies. Nothing is loaded from Google, and a Google cookie already on your device — left by an earlier acceptance, or by the previous version of this Site — is expired the moment you refuse.

Your answer itself. It is saved in your browser's local storage, under the name kaster:consent, together with the date you gave it. It is not a cookie, and it is not transmitted to us. Clearing site data for this Site in your browser erases it, and the banner will ask again.

Storage that is not analytics. Signing in to the tool used to edit this Site's content sets a session cookie. It is required for that tool to work, carries no analytics, and is not affected by your analytics choice.

You can still disable cookies through your browser settings, and the Site will continue to work, though some parts may not function as intended. Browser settings are no longer how you refuse analytics, however — the banner and the footer control are, and they apply whatever your browser is set to.

Accuracy

We take reasonable steps to ensure personal information we hold is accurate and up to date. If your information changes or you believe we hold inaccurate information, please contact us at legal@kaster.ca so we can correct it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
